I have attended many tent rental seminars and trade shows through the years and there are some great tools out there for many specific jobs we have to do in our business. Yet the focus has almost always been on a specific task to be done.
In studying the workflows of outdoor events, it has become obvious to me that the entire job is made up of a long list of specific task to be completed. Furthermore, each of these tasks depends on the task before it getting done. So what I realized was that if I really wanted to be efficient in my setups and take downs, I had to understand how each task was related and connected so that I could develop an entire system that got the entire job done as efficiently as I needed.
Total efficiency on a jobsite has to rely on more than just one great tool. Thought out systems coupled with thought out tools bring together the best workflow possible.
Just as an example: You can have the best stake driver on the market, but sometimes it can take crews just as much time to offload the stakes and distribute them. Why not carry the stakes with the stake driver and install them as you distribute them? It is a simple thought that will save you labor and money.
